2009 has GOT to be better than this

There are some things in life that just shouldn't happen. Things that, logically, you know do happen every day and can even be attributed to some bullshit circle of life nonsense. But that doesn't mean that they should happen. That doesn't make them right. That doesn't make them okay. That doesn't make them somehow make sense. An 8-year-old boy shouldn't have to watch his parents tear each other apart and get a divorce. Teenagers shouldn't have to be pallbearers or speak at their best friend's funeral. None of this is fair or right or natural. None of it was part of the plan when we rang in 2008. Nevertheless, this is the reality one year later.

DH will now be Soon-to-be-EX-DH. And a former student has been laid to rest much too soon.

Welcome, 2009. You can't be any worse than your predecessor. But do me a favor and don't test that theory, okay?

To anyone who stumbles upon this long dormant blog, here's a little unsolicited advice for the New Year: Be kind to those you love, even during those times when you don't like them very much. And always wear a seat belt. Please.
